The climax happens 100 pages before the book actually ends. I found this kind of surprising, and at first I was expecting an ever bigger twist at the end. I think that the pacing was good overall and the book kept me hooked in, but more about that in the Dislikes section.

Not to mention that the writing was also high quality. The romance was sweet, but not overkill where it was obnoxious to read. In short, the character development was phenomenal.Īnother admirable trait about Fangirl is how light and fluffy of a read it is. All of the characters seemed to have their own back story and personal story arc that added a lot of flavor and spice to the novel. I genuinely admired each character, even those who were supposed to be bad in the beginning, like Courtney or Reagan. They were all a quirky and unique set of people who progressed through the story beautifully. In my personal opinion, the best thing about Fangirl was the characters. The first few chapters were light and fluffy, and eventually set the stage for the overall plot and Cath’s gradual character developement. I read the synopsis and it sounded interesting as well. I had high expectations of this book because I had heard so many wonderful things about it. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words…and she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.įor Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she want to move on even if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone.
